Gregg Lagger is one of our two state champions in the Moot Court
competition.
Our Model Illinois
Government team participated in their statewide competition on
March 3-6 2005, using the Capitol building complex over in Springfield,
and performed extremely well. MIG is a simulation
where students participate as legislators, lobbyists, budget
analysts, and as moot court justices and attorneys.
They debate the bills of the last legislative session as well
as a mock trial
involving constitutional issues.
In the Moot
Court competition, Millikin's two teams of attorneys dominated
all competition, ended up finishing in first and second
place, and had to play each other to determine the championship.
Congratulations to Meghan Sims and Gregg Lagger, our state champions,
and to Colleen Cunningham and Nichole Johnson, our state runner-ups.
Our three appellate justices also did very well, with Andrew Gillette
(picture) winning the statewide award for best Supreme Court Justice.
Our legislative team also performed admirably, and Andrea Jones
was selected to serve as a Committee Chair in the Senate.
We give special thanks to Julie Solliday, our head delegate, and
to Dr. Robert Money, our coach for the moot court participants.
Please congratulate these students on their fine performance and
their hard work this semester.
