All political science majors at Millikin complete at least one internship, applying what they learn in the classroom while obtaining valuable, practical work experience. In addition, most of our students choose to enhance their skills by taking part in special opportunities for learning off campus.

The competitive simulation teams, Model Illinois Government (MIG) and Model UN, allow students to hone public speaking, analysis, and negotiation skills in a fun, rewarding way. The teams are coached by departmental faculty, and they travel to cities like Chicago, St. Louis, and Springfield to compete with collegiate teams from around the state and nation.

The Washington Semester, UN semester, and Study Abroad programs allow students to affordably travel to more exotic locations, taking advantage of learning opportunities while experiencing different cultures. The expanded timeframe of an entire semester elsewhere enriches the education obtained at Millikin. Recent students have traveled to Washington DC, England, Australia, and the Dominican Republic.

Political science minors and other non-majors who are involved in the department are also encouraged to take part in these programs.

"Just remember not all learning comes from a book. Get out and experience what you want to do."
