An Education Worth the Wait
Raising three children is a job in itself, but being accepted into Millikin’s adult learning program to become an elementary school teacher was a dream fulfilled for Julie Erwin. Though balancing time with her children and schoolwork was challenging—she took her laptop with her to the tennis courts to study while her children practiced—Julie’s hard work paid off. The PACE program allowed her to gain invaluable experience as a student teacher under an award-winning fourth grade instructor at E.J. Muffley School while achieving her highest GPA in her academic career. With the educational foundation she has now, Julie hopes to teach and pursue a Master’s degree. “Here I’m really doing things,” she said. “Had I not been in PACE, I wouldn’t have a degree.”
