A Personalized Education

Majoring in a research-laden subject like chemistry means Arti Patel spends many hours a week working in the labs. But she doesn’t do it alone or with teaching assistants; instead, she works closely with her professors, and because of this, they know her and her work personally. “My advisor, Dr. George Bennett, has always been very encouraging to me and has always been very confident in my ability to do well, which he assures me of regularly,” she said. That’s been the best part of a Millikin education for Arti. “Being able to develop relationships both professionally and personally with professors is easier due to the smaller class sizes,” she said. “Professors are always there for you if you need help. They try to make class fun and exciting.” When she’s not taking lab courses or studying chemistry, Arti enjoys drawing, playing tennis, and spending time with her friends and family. She knows the time outside of the lab has been just as educational as inside. “My Millikin education is an opportunity to make myself a stronger individual,” she said. “It is going to prepare me for the rest of my life.”
