A Chance to Make a Difference
Though he believed he would enjoy teaching, Early Childhood Education major Frank Taylor initially came to Millikin to pursue computer science. But by the end of his sophomore year, he couldn’t deny his true passion. “I always had the thought that I could be a great male role model for young children,” he says. His first foray into the major was observing a first grade class a few blocks from Millikin, and once there, he knew he’d made the right choice. “It felt good,” he says. “I still visit the class once a week so I can gain all of the classroom experience that I can.” When away from the classroom, Frank runs the 100 and 200-meter dashes for the Big Blue, is an active member in his fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha, and serves as a Resident Assistant. What he’s learned both as a Millikin student and as a teacher is preparing him for a successful future. “I am being taught essential lessons,” Frank says. “When I have a classroom of my own, I can pass this knowledge on to my own students.”
