Performance Perfection

As a talented violin and piano player, Anna Wang found Millikin to be a place where she could grow and be nurtured as a musician. “Professors Judith Mancinelli and Georgia Hornbacker, my piano and violin teachers, have not only built my technique and musicality, but also my emotional and social growth,” she said. Anna has had many experiences teaching during her four years as well, tutoring and accompanying in the School of Music, and outside of Millikin. “This past semester, I had the opportunity to intern with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra and Sangamon Valley Youth Orchestra,” she said. “The internship has taught me how a professional orchestra operates. With the youth orchestra, my job was to lead violin and/or viola sectionals in the two younger orchestras.” The personal attention Anna has received at Millikin has benefited her greatly. “Since Millikin only has an undergraduate program, all performance opportunities are given to undergraduates and not divided among graduate and doctoral students. Teachers are very patient in guiding the growth of a student to her highest potential,” she said.
