Exercise Science and Sport Pavilion
Transform MU > Campaign Goals > Transform Three Outdated Buildings > Exercise Science and Sport Pavilion

The exercise science and sport program at Millikin has grown considerably. With over 200 students preparing for a variety of career paths, the increasing demand for the program has stretched beyond campus capacity. Currently, classes are held in up to eight different facilities across campus because of space limitations. At other times, classes must be moved to accommodate athletic events. Even adequate equipment storage is a concern because of space constraints.

A new Exercise Science and Sport Pavilion in the building currently known as West Towne Square provides a central facility for this vibrant, fast-growing program.

What is Exercise Science and Sport?

This relatively new field is the timely result of an increased nationwide focus on the scientific connection between physical activity and better health, the growth of the fitness and sport industry, and the quest for improved athletic performance. Students in Millikin's department of exercise science and sport may choose from one of four areas of study:

Health, Fitness and Recreation
Graduates are prepared to lead individuals and programs in health, fitness and recreation activities.

Sport Management
Students in this area are prepared to lead sport organizations and businesses.

Athletic Training
Careers in this field include assessing and managing the care of athletes.

Physical Education
Our graduates from this traditional program teach kindergarten through high school students about physical fitness, health and driver education. Many also achieve success as winning high school and college coaches.
