- Joint agreement is reached with the Junior Welfare Association to restore the Millikin Homestead

- Staley Library is dedicated at commencement
- School of Nursing opens
- Richards Treat University Center is dedicated in honor of Lenore Richards and Nola Treat, '07
- Birks Museum established in the Gorin Hall
- After a gift of $3 million from the estate of Purvis Tabor and his wife, Roberta Morris Tabor, '36, the School of Business is renamed the Tabor School of Business and Industrial Management
- College of Fine Arts is established, including the School of Music, Department of Art and a new Department of Theatre and Dance
