INSTANT MESSAGE A MILLIKIN LIBRARIAN:

WHEN CAN I IM A LIBRARIAN?

Librarians expect to be available during the following times:

Monday- Thursday: 10:00am - 5:00pm, 6:00pm - 9:30pm
Friday: 10:00am - 5:00pm
Sunday: 1:00pm - 5:00pm, 6:00 - 9:30pm

But, one of icons above, next to "current status," should indicate if we are currently online.
When IM is not available, please ask us your questions by email, by phone, or in person.

WHO MAY USE THIS SERVICE?

"Instant Message a Millikin Librarian" is intended for Millikin University students, faculty, and staff.

Community users are welcome to visit Staley Library in person (map and directions), or to call circulation at 424-6214 for questions regarding our services for community patrons.

WHAT KIND OF QUESTIONS MAY I ASK?

Please ask brief research questions. If your question is in-depth or lengthy, you may be asked to come into the library to consult with a librarian. Also, be aware that at some point in your research process you will need to come to the library to get the best resources to answer your research question.

WILL I NEED TO WAIT TO CHAT WITH A LIBRARIAN?

Patrons at the Research Assistance desk have priority over IM patrons and IM patrons are taken in first-come, first-serve order. You may need to wait if the librarian is already helping someone in person, on the phone, or in another IM session. We will do our best to inform you if that is the case.

Of course, you can always email us, or call us at 424-5065, or 424-6214. We will assist you as soon as we are able.

HOW DO I USE AOL INSTANT MESSENGER?

There are two ways you can IM a Millikin Librarian using AIM:

1) Download and install AOL Instant Messenger from the AIM website.

2) AIM Express service allows you to create a screen name and to chat directly from the web without downloading any software to your computer.

Then,

-Add our screen name, MUlibrarian, to your buddy list.

-Double click on MUlibrarian to send a message to the librarian.

-Type in your question, the librarian will respond as soon as possible.

HOW DO I USE Yahoo! MESSENGER?

1) Download and install Yahoo! Messenger from the Yahoo website.

Then,

-Add our Yahoo! ID, MUlibrarian, to your contact list.

-Double click on MUlibrarian to send a message to the librarian.

-Type in your questions, the librarian will respond as soon as possible.

HOW DO I USE MSN MESSENGER?

There are two ways you can IM a Millikin Librarian using MSN Messenger:

1) Download and install MSN Messenger.

2) MSN Web Messenger lets you chat online without downloading anything, just using your web browser. Pop-up blockers must be disabled to use this service.

-Add our screen name, MUlibrarian@hotmail.com to your buddy list.

-Double click on MUlibrarian@hotmail.com to send a message to the librarian.

-Type in your question, the librarian will respond as soon as possible.
