How many professors and university staff have Facebook accounts? Do you actively "friend" students? Have you come up with your own policies related to social networking with students? It's a slippery slope--you want to be open, but not too open. The Chronicle Review posted an article written by a professor in Pennsylvania that discusses this dilemma.

As for me, I'm fairly active on Facebook. Friend me! My policy with current students is to: accept friend requests, but not to actively seek them out. As for responding to items/statuses that students post? I generally only respond when they respond to something that I have posted.
