Position Title: Interlibrary Loan Student Assistant 1

Position Summary:
To assist the Interlibrary Loan Associate in filling requests to other libraries and in processing ILL items returned to Millikin. Also, the students assist with ILL photocopying, filing, processing items received, and other tasks as necessary. Assistant 1 fills requests for ILL from other Illinois academic libraries through I-Share Online (IO) Endeavor system, and empties the bags from the regional delivery truck (ILDS) and processes IO items received for Millikin patrons.

Position Responsiblities:

• Monday – Friday, print “send” list, retrieve requested items, update computer records and send items in ILDS bag.
• Empty and sort ILDS bags. Process items on loan for Millikin patrons and check in Millikin’s returned items.
• Make list of patrons to be informed by mail about ILL items received.
• Make sure that patrons wanting notification by phone of ILL items received are so notified.
• Return to other libraries the IO items borrowed by Millikin patrons.
• Keep count on daily statistics tally sheet of how many items lent to other libraries, and how many received items were loaned self-initiated by patrons.
• Other tasks: Student workers help with other tasks as needed, such as filing cards for periodical articles received, keeping track of the number of articles per journal received, and making photocopies for requests made by FAX or ALA forms.

• Be able to work about two hours a day, 5 days a week. Actual hours worked can be flexible as long as it is some time each weekday.
• Willingness to learn new skills, comfort with using different computer databases.
• Some library knowledge, ability to locate library items in stacks.
• Must be accurate. Accuracy is more important than speed.
• Comfort with varied pace.
