 2004 December newsletter

With Cindy Fuller starting back with us on December 16 (see the previous library newsletter for details), we will be at full staff in the library - for about a month. Then, Jen Masciadrelli will be leaving!! She will be in effect filling Cindy's position at ILCSO. This will be a nice step for Jen: more money for sure, no commute, and a basically perfect fit for Jen's many talents and enjoyments. Jen is already well known to many of the staff at ILCSO because of her committee work with the integrated state-wide library system, Voyager, and its public catalog, ILLINET Online, so it will be a comfortable transition for her. She does need to move, but that is only because she and her husband have just bought a house in Champaign.

But oh how we will miss her! And this time there is no-one waiting in the wings to take over the position Jen is vacating. We will initiate a national search in January and proceed with all due speed, even while once again shifting around some librarian responsibilities. We will keep you posted.

(Oh yes, that Peeps page: as of  Dec. 5, 2004, it had been looked at 411,106 times since April 16, 2003 ! Jen and Susan Avery, co-creators of the page, are preparing a brief conference paper about it. We never could have imagined what a hit it would be!)

: Be sure to check each month on the library's new acquisitions by clicking on heading above. November's new titles have already been added.

Earlier newsletters

Three of the library's student workers sang in Vespers on the first weekend in December. Lyndsay Brault, Aaron Denk, and Emily Sites all contributed to this annual  extravaganza of holiday music. Fun to see the students all dressed up, and the music was sublime.
Two of the library's student workers will not be returning this coming spring, to allow them to pay even closer attention to their academics. Senior Sarah Popkin has been with us since her freshman year, as has Junior Katie Avery. We will of course be looking to fill their vacancies; but it is always disorienting when familiar faces move on. We will miss them.

Other student staff news:

Shawna Warner, a junior nursing student, is president of the National Student Nurse's Association (NSNA) here at Millikin. Shawna was also recently elected to a second term as President of the Student Nurses Association of Illinois.

Senior Debbie Myers will be student teaching this spring, but she will continue with some evening and weekend hours at the library.
