Since at least 1989, Staley Library's full-time staff has chosen to honor its best library assistants in a modest, though heartfelt, way. We select the honorees based on their exceptional contributions to the library's, and therefore the University's, mission, “exceptional” meaning beyond our usual, already exacting, expectations of a student library assistant. In a small ceremony attended by the whole library staff, someone (usually the Director of the Library) reads the individual citation, we all applaud, and the honoree then gets a copy of the citation as well as a small gift certificate for the university's bookstore. Another copy of the citation is placed in the student's official library employment file. We do not select honorees for every month, only when we decide that someone is deserving. Now and then we have selected two Students of the Month in a single month. Two members of the library's present staff, Ms Cynthia Fuller and Mr. Jason Butterick, were once named Student of the Month.
