Alcohol Information and Links
Alcohol and drug use is an issue that many students encounter when
they get to college. Millikin University does have an alcohol policy
which sets forth guidelines regarding who may consume alcohol, and
where, and illicit drugs are, of course, prohibited. The Office
of Student Programs provides a variety of resources to increase
awareness of the potential dangers and effects of alcohol and drug
abuse. This website (see adjacent links) also contains some facts
about alcohol as well as some additional resources for those
who are interested. Please contact the Office of Student Programs
if you have any other questions or concerns about alcohol or drug
use, or Millikin's alcohol policy.
If you're going to party...Party
Smart!
More assaults are occurring on college campuses due to the increasing
use of "date rape" drugs such as RUFFIES and GHB.
When You Go To A Party, Bar,
Or Even A Small Gathering...
- Don't take beverages, including alcohol, from someone you don't
know well or trust.
- If someone offers to get you a drink, accompany that person
to the bar, watch your drink being poured, and carry it back yourself.
- Don't share or exchange drinks
- Don't leave drink unattended while dancing, talking, using the
restroom, or making a phone call. If you accidentally leave your
drink unattended, discard it.
- Be extremely cautious when you drink from a punch bowl, or container
being passed around.
- Don't drink anything that has an unusual taste or appearance
(e.g. salty taste, excessive foam, unexplained residue)
Be A Friend...
- Appoint a designated "buddy" or sober person when
you go to parties or bars. Periodically check up on each other.
- Be alert if one of your friends appears very intoxicated after
consuming a small amount of alcohol. They may be in danger.
- Warn friends about high-risk situations, such as bars or particular
parties where "dosing" is known to have occurred.
Some Signs You Might Have Been
Drugged...
- If you feel a lot more intoxicated than your usual response
to the amount of alcohol you consumed.
- If you wake up feeling very hung over, or "fuzzy",
or it lasts longer than usual.
- If you remember taking a drink but cannot recall what happened
for a period of time after you consumed the drink.
- If you feel as though someone had sex with you, but you can't
remember any or all of the incident.
If It Happens To You...
- Get to a safe place
- Ask a trusted friend to stay with you and assist you in getting
the help you need.
- Go to a hospital emergency department as soon as possible for
an examination and evidence collection.
- Preserve as much physical evidence as possible. Try not to bathe,
shower, or douche. Don't throw away the clothes you were wearing.
