Tabor's strength is a curriculum and faculty that promote functional integration and courses and opportunities that place the student in situations where he/she interacts directly with businesses and business problems.
The goals of a Millikin University education include teaching you to:
Learn to solve problems
Understand the connections between theory and practice
Work in groups and situations where you take the initiative rather than placing the responsibility on the faculty.
About Decatur, Illinois
Decatur is home to a diverse business environment ranging from agri-business to heavy manufacturing and from large multinational corporations to successful and innovative entrepreneurial businesses.
Decatur is within a three-hour drive of the Midwest's two major cities, Chicago and St. Louis.
Chicago: Third largest city in the U.S. It is located on Lake Michigan, the largest inland freshwater lake located entirely in the U.S. Home to global business climate and a high concentration of entertainment options.
St. Louis: Located on the Mississippi River, home to Anheuser-Busch, the world's largest brewery, a great botanical garden, excellent Italian food and The Arch (“Gateway to the Midwest”).
The culture and heritage of the Midwest values hard work and is agrarian, generally more conservative than either coast, typically protestant in religion, and usually outgoing and friendly.
Decatur has a great park system with a bike and hiking trail extending several miles from the Millikin campus across the Sangamon River to the Rock Springs Environmental Center.
The local Caterpillar plant produces the world’s largest off-road truck,
and Archer Daniels Midland is the world’s largest processor of soybean, corn and other grains and is heavily engaged in the nutraceutical market.
Central Illinois was the home of Abraham Lincoln, one of our nation’s most revered Presidents. You can learn much about his life by visiting Springfield, Illinois just 45 minutes west from the campus.
Central Illinois is also home to Amish and Mennonite religious groups, which lead simple lifestyles, often without electricity and automobiles.
