Spring Unified Auditions 2008

January 16* and January 17**

Ruthless and Arcadia

You will have 2 minutes to present a song and monologue

  • SONG:
    Traditional Musical Theatre style (belt, power ballad, story songs, and character songs)
    Cole Porter through 1995. Nothing contemporary. Pay very close attention to style and act the song.

    Reminder - no Drag auditions!
    Movies to watch for style choices: Bad Seed, The Women, Mommy Dearest, Gypsy, All About Eve

    Do Not Sing from the following composers:
    Stephen Sondheim, Jason Robert Brown, Andrew Lloyd Webber, or William Finn.

  • MONOLOGUE:

    Choose a monologue similar in intellect and language to the play, Arcadia.

    The piece should be British and performed in RP (standard British dialect)
    The following playwrights are a good place to look for the language and intellect: Stoppard, Frayn, McDonagh, Shaffer, Whitemore.

  • DANCE CALL:
    There will not be a general dance call for everyone.
    Those called back for Ruthless will learn and perform a tap combination at the callback on Friday night.

NOTES:
Sign ups for all auditions and dance calls will be posted on the bulletin board outside of Shilling 210 on Monday, January 14.

*Wednesday night, 1/16 of Unified Auditions, will be for Sophomores and Seniors and cast of Pinafore
**Thursday night, 1/17 will be for Freshmen and Juniors
all other students may sign up either evening.

Arcadia --Saturday, January 19, 10:00am - 2:00pm, Pipe Dreams I Studio Theatre

Junior and Senior Acting BFAs only
If you do not want to sing at the audition you must submit a written request to the department chair prior to the evening of your audition; you will still have the 2 minutes for your audition if you want to use it
