The grant also supports the development of on-campus programs for faculty and staff. Association of Teacher Educators Annual Meeting, San Diego, California
This conference was attended by Connie Newtson, the Field Placement Coordinator for the School of Education. She attended sessions on working with problem student teachers; assessment; and using a co-teaching model for student teaching instead of a traditional approach. Implementing Assessments for Field Experiences and Student Teaching
This workshop was organized by Nan Gaylen and Connie Newtson (Education) and facilitated by Donna Post, assistant professor of education at Southern Illinois University. The workshop was designed to help supervisory faculty from Millikin University and cooperating teachers from area schools. The workshop resulted in more effective processes for evaluating and assessing student teachers, guidelines for dealing with marginal student teachers, and techniques for improving communication between faculty supervisors and cooperating teachers. Livetext Conference, Chicago, Illinois
Brian Justison, who serves on the Title III Electronic Plan of Study Task Force, attended this conference to evaluate the Livetext software package as a foundation for creating, developing, and assessing electronic student portfolios. This conference was attended by Purna Banerjee (English) and student-scholars from the departments of Biology and English. The attendees presented a panel entitled "Postcolonial Con/Sub/Texts: A Reflection on the Hybrid Selves." 2006 Gateway Conference: "Promoting Meaningful Metrics in Entrepreneurship Education Programs," St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri
This conference was attended by Sharon Alpi and Richard Chamberlin (Entrepreneurship). Entrepreneurship is a new major within the Tabor School of Business; this conference focused on how to develop valid, reliable, and workable ways to assess entrepreneurship programs in academic settings. Lessons learned from this conference will also be applied in other areas of business education in the Tabor School.

Toward Effective Teaching
This seminar's sessions were presented over five evenings by Dr. Darlene Hoffman (Education). The seminar was designed to encourage faculty participants to develop course activities that would actively involve students in the learning process, and to develop assessments that were tied to their departmental goals for the Higher Learning Commission and to the Millikin Program for Student Learning. The seminar was attended by seven faculty members, each of whom developed, presented, and received feedback on a microteaching lesson incorporating one or more active learning strategies. Participants also submitted revised syllabi and received follow-up consultation from the seminar presenter as desired.
Winter Break 2004 and Spring 2005
Using Macromedia Dreamweaver to Design and Maintain Departmental Websites
This workshop was presented on two separate occasions by Dr. Randy Brooks (English) to assist faculty and staff in the use of Dreamweaver web authoring software. The workshops exposed participants to basic web design principles, and each participant was provided a software package to use in continued website development efforts after the workshop. Over 40 participants attended the workshops, which are a crucial step in helping departments develop and implement web plans of study.

Conference on Portfolio Integration: Connecting Learning and Assessment, Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois
This conference was attended by Pam Folger (Career & Experiential Education Center), Jason Helfer (Education), Sandra McKenna (English), and Mary Rivers (Communication). The team's goals were to learn about various ways to implement e-portfolios and determine the strengths and weaknesses of the different options available.

2005 Assessment of Academic Advising Institute, National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), St. Petersburg, Florida
This institute was attended by Linda Slagell and Lori Bales. While at the institute, they worked on developing an advising assessment strategy that is consistent with Millikin University's promotion, tenure, and teaching goals.

Effectively Engaging Faculty in Academic Advising Seminar, National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), St. Petersburg, Florida
This seminar was attended by the members of the Advising Task Force. The topics covered during the program included understanding the scope of academic advising; connecting teaching and learning skills to academic advising; motivating faculty engagement in advising; connecting advising to learning outcomes; and creating effective faculty development workshops and seminars.

This conference was attended by several faculty members and administrators from Millikin University. Several presentations focused on how to document and assess teaching effectiveness and student learning.

2004 Academic Advising Administrators' Institute, National Academic Advising Association (NACADA), St. Petersburg, Florida
This second annual institute was attended by Millikin's Title III Advising Task Force. The task force's goals while at the institute were 1) to compare Millikin's advising activities with those of other schools, and 2) to set priorities for the remainder of the grant in terms of faculty development, at-risk students, and advising processes.
