Job Descriptions
The Title III Project will be largely staffed by University personnel whose time is made available through course releases. The Title III Coordinator will be John M. Jeep, Director of University and Teaching. Much of his present responsibility rests in the implementation of the MPSL. As Title III Coordinator he will monitor the work of staff and task forces working on each of the strategies. He will also participate (as Director of University Teaching and Learning) in the MPSL assessment, development of the Plan of Study component, and the strengthening of services for at risk students. Another key person in the project is Linda Slagell, Director of Academic Development. Dr. Slagell is currently involved in the EDGE programs and in services for probationary students. She will supervise the personnel added for this project, and will be heavily involved in the work of the Faculty Task Force on Advising and the development of new services for high-need students.
The Activity will involve four faculty members, supported by release time, each of whom will focus on one of the Activity components. These positions are:
* Advising Development Coordinator (to be carried out by Director of Academic Development) whose mission will be to achieve successful institutionalization of a strengthened advising program at Millikin University.
* Faculty Development Coordinator, whose mission will be to ensure that the multiple grant-related faculty development activities related to advising and meeting the needs of higher-than-average risk students are carried out in an effective and timely manner.
* Plan of Study Coordinator, whose mission will be achieve successful completion implementation of the Plan of Study process outlined in the Title III plan.
* MPSL Assessment Coordinator, whose mission will be institutionalize an ongoing assessment process for the Millikin Plan of Student Learning.
Job Description: Title III Project Coordinator
Time Commitment: .5 FTE for Director of University Teaching and Learning Programs, who is responsible for MPSL implementation at the University. The Title III activity is consistent with the Director's other job responsibilities.
Mission: To achieve successful completion of the Millikin University Title III program.
Qualifications: Doctorate and experience in higher education administration, curricular development, co-curricular activities, and faculty development.
Reports To: President and Provost
Responsibilities: Oversee, coordinate, and report on grant activities and the efforts of strategy area coordinators and task forces, report to President and Provost, Deans, Departments, faculty, staff, students, and broader University community, assume leadership in appropriate grant activities (including curricular development, faculty development), administer remaining grant activities, monitor progress, report to and confer with U.S. Department of Education, manage fiscal affairs of grant, solicit appropriate support, work with internal and external evaluators.
Job Description: Director of Academic Development
Time Commitment: .25 FTE for Title III activities for EDGE and Exploratory Studies students. The Director's position is primarily focuses on targeted students and students on academic probation as part of regular job responsibilities.
Mission: To achieve successful academic outcomes for students at higher-than-average risk of academic failure.
Qualifications: Advanced degree and experience in higher education student support.
Reports To: Project Coordinator for Title III purposes
Responsibilities: Recruit University faculty and staff to support a first-year support system for EDGE students (those with low high school performance records), including as advisors; coordinate efforts of volunteer student mentors assigned to individual students; coordinate the activities of advisors, mentors and first-year University Seminar instructors; recruit and train advisors to meet the specific needs of Exploratory Studies (undeclared majors) students; monitor the success of services for targeted students, in coordination with the Assistant Director for Academic Development.
Job Description: Assistant Director of Academic Development (1 FTE, new position)
Mission: To achieve successful implementation of student-centered support systems for students who are at higher-than-average risk of leaving the University prematurely.
Qualifications: M.A. and experience in higher education student support services.
Reports To: Director of Academic Development
Responsibilities: Assumes a leadership role in assisting faculty in meeting the advising and support needs of students at higher-than-average risk of academic failure or leaving the University before graduation; works closely with the Advising Development Coordinator/Director of Academic Development; works with the Institutional Research Office to track the overall effectiveness of intervention programs in meeting the needs of targeted students; serves on the Faculty Task Force on Advising; participates in faculty development activities relative to advising and high-need students.
Job Description: Evaluation Consultant (Karen Schilling)
Mission: To assist the University in the collection and analysis of evaluation data for the Title III Project.
Qualifications: PhD and experience in university program design and evaluation.
Reports To: Project Coordinator
Responsibilities: Assist the Project Coordinator, Office of Institutional Research and Project Task Forces in designing and completing formative and summative evaluation processes for the Title III Project. Evaluator will also assist the Faculty Task Force on MPSL Assessment in the design and completion of that Project task.
