DIFFICULT CONVERSATIONS: FOSTERING COMMUNICATION SKILLS THROUGH THE UNIVERSITY SEMINAR COURSE
Rene Verry (Behavioral Sciences)
Start Date: June 2003 • Phase I & II Completed: August 2003
This project was designed to enhance student communication skills by exposing University Seminar faculty and student leaders to concepts and techniques drawn from the book Difficult Conversations (Stone, Patton, & Heen, 1999, Penguin Books). Phase I of the project was completed through a 10-hour summer workshop for interested faculty and administrators. Phase II involved development and integration of a student leader training module into the broader training program for University Seminar student leaders. Phase III comprises assessment of 1) the efficacy of training, and 2) transfer and retention of communication skills to students enrolled in University Seminar.
