ALIGNMENT AND ASSESSMENT OF SCHOOL OF EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO STATE CONTENT AREA STANDARDS
Nan Gaylen (Education)

Start Date: June 2005 • Completion: September 2005
The primary objective of this project was to enable each of the university's education programs to align their program standards with state guidelines. Eight separate groups of three to five faculty were involved in the project, representing programs in Elementary and Early Childhood education, Art, Music, Physical Education, Science, Social Science, English Language Arts, and Math. Each group developed a teacher education program matrix that identifies the courses and experiences that satisfy each state content area standard, as well as assessment tools related to each standard. The matrices were then used to revise education program requirements where necessary to align them with state standards. The outcomes of the project were then used to update advising worksheets and the eight-semester plan of study for teacher education majors.
