Millikin University was founded in 1901 as one of the nation’s first small, comprehensive universities by James Millikin, a prominent Decatur businessman affiliated with the Presbyterian Church. More than a century later, the University offers undergraduate studies in Arts and Sciences, Business, Fine Arts, and Professional Studies, as well as graduate studies in Business Administration and Nursing. Millikin currently supports an enrollment of approximately 2000 traditional-age undergraduate students, 350 adults in its undergraduate degree completion program and 50 graduate students. Today, the University takes James Millikin’s founding vision a step further by embracing “performance learning,” a unique approach to higher education that allows students to perform their knowledge, building the confidence to succeed after graduation. The success of his vision is evidenced in the University’s comprehensive placement rates, with 99.5% of 2008 graduates gaining employment or entering a graduate/professional school within six months of graduation.
Located in Decatur, a metropolitan area of 100,000 residents, Millikin University is just over 120 miles north of St. Louis, 180 miles south of Chicago and 150 miles west of Indianapolis.
