Education & Employment:
Dr. Brown earned his Bachelor's of Science Degree in Accounting from Freed-Hardeman University in 1979, his MBA (Management) from Pepperdine University along with his CPA in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Accountancy-Taxation from the University of Mississippi in 1994.  Dr. Brown has over twenty years of teaching experience.  He has also held other positions such as an accountant for Haynes & Jackson CPAs (Memphis), Internal Auditor for Pepperdine University, as well as owning his own business.

Dr. Brown has the following recent publications:

  • "Revisiting Measuring Performance in Not-for-Profit Organizations", Journal of Business and Leadership
  • "State Tax Amnesties: Forgiveness is Divine - and Possible Profitable", (co-authored), State Tax Notes
  • "Assessing the Writing of Business Majors: A Longitudinal Study", 2006 Midwest Regional Meeting of the American Accounting Association
  • Several court case reviews for the Tax Matters Column of the Journal of Accountancy

Professional Activities:
He is a member of the Illinois CPA Society, the Tennessee CPA Society, the Institute of Management Accountants, the American Accounting Association, and the American Taxation Association. Dr. Brown has even offered his expertise to the general public. He volunteered his accounting students to participate in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA) that offers free assistance in filing federal and state tax returns.
