Welcome to the Biology Department, one of the most dynamic departments at Millikin University! We invite you to explore our website for information about programs, faculty, student life and biology careers. Also, take at look at the Leighty-Tabor Science Center, biology's base of operations.
The transition from high school to college is the most dramatic change most of us experience in our educational careers. College should be treated as a full-time job. That means working a minimum of 40 hours per week. You will need to take responsibility for your activities and your degree program. We are here to advise and guide you, but the ultimate responsibility is yours.
Biology is a challenging major. To be successful, you will need to work more than 40 hours a week. An accepted rule of thumb is to study and work two hours outside of class for every hour in class.
To help you with your studies, our faculty and staff are accessible. We encourage you to develop personal relationships with us. This is one of the huge advantages of attending a small school like Millikin. We also work tirelessly to deliver current and engaging lectures and innovative and exciting labs.
Remember to schedule an appointment with your academic advisor within the first two weeks of arriving at Millikin. He/she is another tremendous source of information about how to succeed.
And, of course, if we can assist you in preparing for your arrival at Millikin, please contact us at 217.424.6230 and talk to Sue James, the Natural Sciences Administrative Assistant. Again, welcome!
