How can I take theatre classes outside of my major's requirements?

Students may sign up if there is space available in the class, if the student has fulfilled the necessary prerequisites, and with permission of the instructor. For Example: BA students may take Acting Styles or Movement for Actors with the above stipulations.

How do I change my academic advisor?

Talk to your current advisor and then talk to the faculty member you wish to have for your advisor. When you have approval from both faculty members, come to the office to make the written request through the departmental secretary. The change must be approved by the Departmental Chair.

How do I change my voice teacher?

The steps for changing studios begins with discussing your concerns with your current voice teacher FIRST, and preferably soon enough in the semester for the two of you to try and resolve the "issues." If, after a period of trying to work together the two of you determine that a change is best, your current voice teacher will send Dr. Hadi Gibbons an e-mail releasing you to discuss with her the steps for finding another teacher.

What kinds of Dance shoes are recommended and where can I get them?

Like any line of work that requires professional equipment, dancers need quality shoes. It's fine to go cheap on ballet shoes (provided you stick with known brands such as Bloch, Capezio or Sansha), but when it comes to character shoes, you should consider investing in a good pair of shoes. Below are some websites and some recommendations for shoes known to be of good quality. Keep in mind that many of these styles of shoes may be purchased online from several places (Amazon, 6pm, Zappos), so shop around for the best price! I don't recommend buying the cheapest shoes because in dance shoes, you absolutely get what you pay for.

Tap shoes for Women (heel height should be 2.5")
    Capezio: Manhattan Xtreme

    La Duca: Roxie

Character shoes for Women (heel height should be a minimum of 2.5")
    Capezio: Manhattan, Chorus

    Bloch: Splitflex

La Duca: These shoes are suitable for all dancers comfortable in heels: Roxie or Angelique

These shoes are designed for the advanced dancer and offer little support.  They are not recommended for dancers beginning their training: Cherie, Alexis, Elizabeth, Teresa, Rachelle

    Tap shoes for Men:
Capezio: Classic Tap K540 or  Brogue Tap K541 (sizes for men are 2 above street shoe size)

    Sansha: Tee-Oscar or T-Buda

    La Duca: Edward

    Character shoes for Men:
Sansha Tee Oscar or T-Buda (remove the taps)

    La Duca: Edward

NOTE--IF YOU WEAR LARGE SIZE SHOES
Males with a shoe size larger than a 13, need to special order ballet shoes from Capezio BEFORE arriving on campus, as those orders take about 6 weeks.
Females with a shoe size larger than 10, will need to special order, or search "really hard".
