Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I prepare for my vocal coaching?

A:  The faculty will work with you on any song of your choice. Songs you are learning for solo ensemble are usually the best. However, only those with memorized art songs or arias will be considered for the solo competition.  Millikin voice faculty will hear your song and then coach you with some tips to make your singing and/or performance better.

Accompanists are provided. Bring music for the accompanist. (Have two copies of your music if you are choosing to do something that is not yet memorized.) REMEMBER.. only memorized art songs or arias may be considered for the solo competition.

Q: Is there a dress code?

A:  Yes, we ask that students wear nice school attire for the first day of rehearsal. Students should not wear shorts for the rehearsal or the final performance.  Concert attire will be pants and the provided Vocal Festival t-shirt.

Q: What is the schedule for the festival?

A:  Both days will be busy and full of rehearsal. Make sure to get plenty of rest before the festival and pace yourself! The full rehearsal schedule will be distributed upon arrival.

Check-in will take place on Sunday from 11:30am-12:45pm and there will be an All-Festival concert featuring several of our nationally recognized choirs at 7:00pm.  On Monday, students will return to rehearsal by 9:00am to prepare for the final Festival concert at 4:15pm.
