Q: How do I prepare for my vocal coaching?
A: Bring a song to sing (not your choir music). Songs you are learning for solo and ensemble are the best. A voice teacher (a member of the Millikin faculty) will ask you to sing the song and then will coach you with some tips to make your singing and/or performance better.
In most instances a pianist is provided (you do not need to worry about this).
We do choose students to perform on the final concert on Monday afternoon. If you are interested in being considered, your song must be memorized and you must show that you are comfortable performing.
Q: Is there a dress code?
A: Yes, we ask that students wear nice school attire for the first day of rehearsal. Students should not wear shorts for the rehearsal or the final performance. Concert attire will be pants and the provided Vocal Festival t-shirt.
Q: What is the schedule for the festival?
A: Both days will be busy and full of rehearsal. Make sure to get plenty of rest before the festival and pace yourself! The full rehearsal schedule will be distributed upon arrival.
Check-in will take place on Sunday from 11:30am-12:45pm and there will be an All-Festival concert featuring several of our nationally recognized choirs at 7:00pm. On Monday, students will return to rehearsal by 9:00am to prepare for the final Festival concert at 4:15pm.
