Formerly called the Basic Skills Test, the TAP is comprised of four components that address middle and high school knowledge of 1) Reading Comprehension 2) Language Arts 3) Math and 4) Writing.
State of Illinois Requirement: In order to be admitted to the School of Education (SOE), each education major must apply to the SOE during his/her freshman year. Every student is required to successfully pass the TAP. Students will not be admitted to the SOE until the TAP is passed and all other admission requirements are met.
Goal of the Workshop: Students should have already acquired the necessary skills to complete this test in high school. However, due to the intensity of the test and the fact that some students do not test well, the focus for the workshop is to help students prepare and to assist them in the content areas where they may struggle.
TAP Testing Site: Millikin University has requested the administrative rights to be a testing center for the TAP test. If we are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE), students will be able to sit for the computer test on Millikin's campus the last day of the Workshop. In the event Millikin is not granted permission to offer the TAP test on-site, students can register online through the ICTS and take it at a later date at an official testing site.
