Christie Magoulias is returning to her alma mater; she graduated from Millikin with a B.S. in Elementary Education. Following her time at Millikin, she worked as an elementary teacher and an Instructional Specialist in the St. Louis area. During this time, she also earned a M. S. in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville. Christie continued her education at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale where she earned a Ph.D. in Educational Administration while serving as Clinical Instructor and Center Coordinator for the university's Teacher Education Program. Her doctoral research focus was, and continues to be, on the efficacy of teacher training and properly preparing students for their first years of teaching.
In her work at Millikin, Dr. Magoulias lays emphasis on student engagement and active learning in her classes. She teaches Early Childhood Methods courses including Language Arts/Social Studies Methods, Math/Science Methods, Reading Instruction Methods, Creative Arts and Movement, as well as the culminating methods course prior to student teaching and Millikin’s signature classroom management course, Creating a Community of learners. She is the faculty sponsor for Phi Lambda Theta, an educational honor society.
Dr. Magoulias serves as the Assessment Coordinator for the School of Education and presented at a national Assessment and Collaboration Conference on the topic “Restructuring the Administrative Account, Reforming the Assessment System, and Retraining your LiveText Users in Less Than a Year”. Based on another research interest, the impact of teaching in impoverished areas on the empathetic nature of first year teachers, she also initiated an annual immersion experience for successful student teachers to travel together to an another country to donate school supplies, teach arts activities to children, and train teachers to use their environmental materials to actively teach young children.
Christie is married to Travis and has two sons, Tate and Hunter. Together, they love reading, swimming, skiing, waterparks, camping, baseball, soccer, hiking trails, bug and rock collecting, and creative adventures!
