The PACE Early Childhood Education program is offered on the Millikin campus and the campus of Parkland College in Champaign.

People from a variety of backgrounds enter the PACE Early Childhood Education program in order to complete a degree that gives them a university education with an emphasis on childhood development. It is an attractive option for those wanting to enhance their career working with young children, either in a daycare setting, federal programs or in another environment.

The program prepares students to work with young children from birth through third grade. Coursework results in a Type 04 license, English as a Second Language (ESL) endorsement, letter of approval for Early Childhood Special Education from the Illinois State Board of Education, and coursework to prepare students to earn a developmental therapist credential from the Department of Social Services.

Scheduled one night per week for five weeks, the courses fit into busy schedules. Taking one topic at a time allows students to focus on learning a topic thoroughly before moving on to the next. The program takes you through Illinois state licensure, resulting in graduates with better job access and career mobility in the teaching fields.

Adults who have already earned a bachelor's degree and would like to teach, can earn Licensure in Early Childhood Education through PACE. Licensure usually requires five semesters of coursework, with the fifth semester dedicated to student teaching.
