Gifts in kind include donations of property other than cash and marketable securities such as art, artifacts, books, equipment, furnishings and software. Likewise, gifts of intangible personal property, such as copyrights, patents and mineral rights, can generate income for the program of your choice on a continuing basis.
Gifts in kind must be reviewed by the university to see if they qualify to serve the purpose of the institution.
A gift in kind requires an official transfer of ownership of property. The donor must also determine the fair market value of the gift for tax reporting purposes. We will issue a gift in kind receipt consisting of a simple description of the donated property.
