All Millikin graduates and those who have successfully completed at least 12 academic credit hours at the university are automatically inducted (at no cost!) into the Alumni Association for life. A team of 11 alumni and two current students make up the Alumni Association board of directors, a team charged with establishing and enhancing the bond between alumni and the university. Four members were recently appointed into the executive board to serve during the 2014-15 academic year:
- Stacy Oertwig Wood ’97 – President
- Natalie Mauck McDowell ’89 – Vice President
- Kelley Steers Wessler ’08 – Secretary
- Crystal Riney ’06 – President Elect
Other members include:
- Andy Beals ’04
- Steve Hengst ’63
- Bob Jamison ’72
- Mark Livasy ’78
- David Martin ’12
- Christopher R. Phillips ’98
- Cheryl Robb Sappington ’84
- Two student designees will be appointed once the fall semester begins.
Through cooperative efforts with the alumni office, the association cultivates communication and fellowship among alumni, encourages alumni support and service to the university, and supports students in the transition to alumni status. Gina Bianchi ’93, who is finishing up her first year at Milikin as senior director of alumni and donor engagement, has a big role in working with the Alumni Association.
“Last year was spent assessing what we wanted the role of the Alumni Association to be moving forward,” said Bianchi. “With a new executive board and a few new faces representing the board, we are looking forward to having more of a presence on campus and within the community, not to mention providing fresh ideas for alumni outreach opportunities. In particular, we want to make sure Millikin students have a working knowledge of the Alumni Association before they cross the stage and make that transition from student to alumnus."
The executive board met July 1 to discuss the upcoming year’s goals and potential events.
