Chad Howard ’05 and Brynn Traughber Howard ’10
Chad: Mt. Zion, Ill.
Brynn: Moweaqua, Ill.
Brynn: Dual Degree – Human Services and Communication
When, where, and how did you first meet at Millikin?
Chad: It was the fall semester of 2007, and I was back at Millikin visiting my fraternity brothers at their off-campus apartment. One of my future groomsmen introduced Brynn and I by hinting to me, “She’s too good for you.” It was the truth then and it still is.
Brynn: Well, I think technically we might have met at the Delta Sig apartments, but when I really remember meeting and connecting with Chad was at an off-campus house called the Pirate Bar in September of 2007. We were introduced by a mutual friend, Nico, and my friend Chelsie. Chad had already graduated, and I was extremely interested in the “older guy.”
What do you remember about the first time meeting each other?
Chad: For a guy who forgets to put the toilet seat down, I surprisingly remember everything from those first two nights. I remember the patterned dress she was wearing, the fact she smiled and laughed without caution and that she couldn’t remember my name.
Brynn: His red Converse … and calling him Will, even though he assured me his name was Chad. I remember he was wearing a crown. I also remember how fondly his friends spoke of him to me. Chad has always been just a really good guy.
What did you do on your first date?
Chad: Simple and sweet. Walk in the park, talking and eating ice cream. Maybe a little kissing.
Brynn: We went to Starbucks and then went to the park – a perfect day date.
Where was your favorite place to hang-out together at Millikin?
Chad: The first couple years of being together we spent a lot of quality time at the Delta House.
Brynn: Probably at the Tri Delta house or at the Delta Sig apartments.
What is your most memorable Millikin experience as a couple?
Chad: I consider myself Brynn’s biggest supporter, and although I had nothing to do with it, I was a proud man watching my future wife as class speaker at her graduation.
Brynn: Any Tri Delta dance. Chad was such a sport dressing up like a banana, Kevin Federline, Superman and a bowler … we always had such a blast. Chad can bust a move!
Where has your relationship taken you since Millikin?
Chad: This is the point where I list all of our milestones and achievements since Millikin, but the truth is having a successful woman that loves me and inspires me is all I’ve ever needed. Our careers, our new home and the beginning of our little family – pales in comparison to having a wife that I want to make proud.
Brynn: We are a work-in-progess every day. I think this is where I am supposed to say all the awesome stuff we have done, but in all honesty, we are a simple couple. We just bought our first home and love to spend time with our furry son, Cooper. Chad has always been right there with me, in the good times and bad. We have a blast together, but we are like any other couple. Chad hates my throw pillow obsession and I hate when he trims his beard over my toothbrush. There is no one else I would rather be mad at, though! I can honestly say that life with Chad is one funny event after another.
What advice would you give young couples in love at Millikin?
Chad: I don’t have any good advice. Just do what works best for you as a couple. We set goals and talked about our dreams, but we’re flexible when those changed. We laugh through it all – which is a must.
Brynn: Just have fun! Don’t worry too much about the future – bills and stress will be there for you. Just go to the Winery, have a beer and dance. And stop canoodling for a minute to do your homework.
