So sang Eric Burgett ’12 during the speech he gave as student speaker at May’s commencement. The new graduate brought the audience to their feet with his performance of an original song he wrote: “Millikin Town.” Watch the performance or visit our FB page for pictures.
Commencement speaker Julie Roe Lach ’97, the NCAA’s vice president for enforcement, was recognized with an honorary doctorate after her speech during which she encouraged graduates to savor their achievements and then help make a positive impact on solving the world's problems.

Several Millikin alumni were part of the 2012 Tony Awards broadcast on June 10. Whether they appeared in production numbers from nominated plays, a video clip, received a "thank you" from the podium or were involved in behind-the-scenes efforts of featured shows, these alums made us proud:
- Tim Shew '80 - cast member in "Evita"
- Andy Grobengieser '91 - associate conductor/keyboards for "Ghost the Musical"
- Joe Machota '93 - the talent agent received a shout-out from Christian Borle, recipient of the award for featured actor in a play ("Peter and the Starcatcher"), who thanked Machota for "changing his life."
- Karen Hyland '00 - cast member (swing) in "Ghost the Musical"
- Sierra Boggess '04 - former cast member in "Master Class" with Tyne Daly, nominated for Best Revival of a Play and featured in a clip from the play
- Ian Liberto '05 - dancer in the opening number sung by Tony Awards' host Neil Patrick Harris
- Maurice Murphy '05 - performing in the featured number from "Leap of Faith"
- Jimmy Goode '08 - wig maker for "Hairspray" production on cruise ship, featured on Tony awards show

Join alumni and friends as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium on Saturday, July 21, at 6:15 p.m. We’ll be in the Redbird Row Party Suites (right field, Rooms 215 and 216).
- Cost is $150 per person and includes a two-hour, all-you-can-eat buffet including beverages of the adult and non-adult variety. For more info, contact the alumni and development office.
- Tickets can be purchased online.
- Live in the Decatur area? Make it an all-inclusive trip and let us do the driving! A motorcoach from Decatur to St. Louis will be available at an additional cost of $25 per person.

MU’s Homecoming will be held Oct. 5-7, so start making your plans now! Reunion packets are being mailed this summer to all alums whose class years end in 2 or 7. A brochure detailing homecoming activities will be sent to all alumni later this summer.
Several alumni will be recognized on Friday, Oct. 5, at a dinner honoring Alumni Awards recipients and Athletic Hall of Fame (AHOF) inductees. Listed below are this year's award recipients; watch for the list of 2012 AHOF inductees in the next issue of Out of the Blue. Come to Homecoming and help us honor them!

This summer, Millikin has partnered with Decatur Public Schools to host a six-week SMASH (Students@Millikin Academic Summer Holiday) Camp for gifted students in sixth through eighth grades. Campers focus on one of five areas of study: health, energy, food science, theatre arts and media. Community SMASH demonstrations are scheduled for Saturday, July 14, from 4-9 p.m. in Decatur’s Fairview Park. Learn more at www.dpssmashcamp.org.

If you live in the Decatur area and have a child interested in music, the Preparatory Department's summer music camps are a fun way to encourage your child's musicality. Alumni families are eligible for a 10 percent discount upon showing an Alumni Association membership card.

"Leadership Through Social Change," a leadership opportunity for rising high school juniors and seniors, is set for June 28 and 29 on campus. Registration fee is $40, and includes an overnight stay in a residence hall. Click here for more information and Registration Form.

The Millikin chapters of Delta Delta Delta and Pi Beta Phi sororities each celebrate 100 years on campus during this fall's Homecoming, Oct. 5-7. The Tri-Delts are planning a celebration at 6 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel. Visit www.deltaepsilon100.blogspot.com for details. They will also host an open house at the chapter house on Saturday, Oct. 6, at noon folllowing a group photo of alums and current members at 11 a.m. in Griswold Physical Education Center.
The Pi Phi house will be open for tours and brunch on Saturday, Oct. 6, and a special Centennial brunch will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, at 11 a.m. in lower Richards Treat University Center.
