As part of a joint venture between Millikin and St. Mary’s Hospital, 20 Taiwanese nursing students and one faculty member from the University of China are visiting Decatur this month.
The international exchange, in its fifth year, helps the students develop a greater understanding of cultural and health care similarities and differences. In addition to classes, the students complete practicum hours at St. Mary's Hospital and Springfield Memorial Medical Center. Other real world experiences include a day at an extended care facility and a half day riding with a local ambulance service. Various cultural experiences are also held.
Dr. Marilyn Prasun, associate professor nursing, is coordinating this year’s exchange, the largest group since the program began.
