Millikin holds the line on tuition and housing rates for 2012-13.

Millikin will not increase tuition or housing prices for the 2012-13 academic year. Citing “intentional cost containment” as the reason for the pricing decision, President Dr. Harold Jeffcoat noted this as the first step in the university’s move toward a sustained pricing effort.

Caterpillar Foundation makes $1 million payment on $11.5 million investment in Millikin.

General Manager Walt Hupe (center), presents a $1 million check from the Caterpillar Foundation to Millikin in support of creating a new Center for International Education on campus. Accepting the check is MU President Harold Jeffcoat and Vice President for Alumni and Development Peg Smith Luy ’75.

On Feb. 22, the Caterpillar Foundation made its second payment of $1 million to Millikin.

Last year, Millikin received a commitment of $11.5 million in support of the university's "Transform MU" capital campaign through the combined generosity of Trustee Emeritus Doug Oberhelman '75, his wife, Diane, and the Caterpillar Foundation — the largest pledge of support in university history.

  • Students continue successful tradition in moot court.

    For the fifth consecutive year, MU students earned the top honors at the moot court competition held in Springfield as part of Model Illinois Government. Two of the 18 Millikin students participating were individually recognized: Cate Harriman '12 was named most outstanding attorney for the second year in a row, and Kevin Stocks '13 was named runner-up. Dr. Robert Money, director of the pre-law program, coached the teams.

    Educators and history buffs especially won’t want to miss these events, but all are invited to attend as Millikin welcomes nationally-known educator and social justice advocate Jonathan Kozol and “Flags of Our Fathers” author James Bradley to campus. Kozol will present "The Soul of a Profession: Education Under Siege" at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 29. Bradley, the son of one of the six soldiers who raised the flag at Iwo Jima, will speak Tuesday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m.

    Hollis Prize competition marks its 10th year.

    The 10th Hollis Prize recipient will be named from among three outstanding music finalists at the competition recital held Saturday, March 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Kaeuper Hall, Perkinson Music Center. The award was made possible through a gift from Dr. C. Kimm Hollis '72, department chair and professor of music at Hanover College in Hanover, Ind.

    Enjoy a fun back-to-school experience with alumni and friends on Sunday, March 25, as we enjoy:

    • Brunch in Millikin's Wornick Dining Room
    • The Theatre and Dance production of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" in nearby Albert Taylor Theatre

    Meet the group for brunch starting at noon in the Dining Room in Richards Treat University Center. Afterward, we'll walk to Albert Taylor Theatre for the 2 p.m. musical, which celebrates the trials and victories of adolescence.

    Brunch costs $7.50 plus tax, pay at Wornick. To purchase performance tickets, call the Kirkland Box Office at 424-6318. Be sure to mention that you’re an alum when you call in to receive a 10 percent discount.

    Join Millikin Day this July at Busch Stadium.

    Join alumni and friends as the St. Louis Cardinals take on the Chicago Cubs at Busch Stadium on Saturday, July 21, at 3 p.m. We’ll have great seats in the Redbird Row Party Suites (right field, Rooms 215 and 216).

    • Cost is $150 per person and includes a two-hour, all-you-can-eat buffet including beverages of the adult and non-adult variety. For more info, contact the alumni and development office.

    Rick BibbHelp us say farewell to Rick Bibb, professor of marketing, as he ends his 30-year Millikin teaching career this May. Join us in wishing him well in his retirement at an event held Wednesday, April 11, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Jump Company, 5204 Shaw Avenue, hosted by Jon Tiede ’92, Jump Company and the Millikin Club of St. Louis.     Chicago-area alums: Plan how to jump-start your career at this event.

    Join Chicago-area alumni and friends for the third annual free career workshop/networking event on Thursday, April 19, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Deloitte Conference Center, 111 S. Wacker Drive. (Want to network only? Arrive at 5:30 p.m.). This workshop will provide valuable ideas and strategies to jump-start or re-energize your job search. Alumni experts in the human resources field will provide insights on current job trends and new opportunities. They'll also give advice and answer your questions on engaging in personal career development, distinguishing yourself among candidates, researching jobs in proactive and creative ways, using social media and networking productively. This year’s panelists are:
