University closed May 20; electronic access unavailable for that day.

The Millikin campus, including the alumni and development office, will be closed all day Monday, May 20, for a technology upgrade.

As a result, you will be unable to access the university’s website, including myMILLIKIN, the alumni directory, online giving and Millikin email accounts on that day.

It was Jan-tastic.
Jan Devore

The overwhelming response made by alumni and friends to the news of the June 30 retirement of Jan Devore, alumni relations director, has led to a change of plans. The retirement event for “Jan’s fans” will now be postponed to this fall’s Homecoming, Oct. 4-6, to allow a larger number of individuals to attend in person and wish her well. Watch for the time, location and other details to come your way this summer once plans are finalized.

Pet prints and some pets were on parade May 3 at Blue Connection in downtown Decatur. Art students enrolled in Carriage House Press created woodcut prints for the event, and proceeds from print sales were donated to the Decatur Macon County Animal Shelter.

An update from the Alumni & Development Office.
Jan Devore

To our alumni and friends:

I’d like to share two updates from our office that have happened this week:

Jan Devore, senior director of alumni and donor engagement, has announced her plans to retire. Her last day at Millikin will be June 30, 2013. Read more…

“I have given my all to Millikin and my work for 35 years and feel that the time is right for me to retire,” Jan says. “Retirement will allow me more time to visit with my family and with friends across the country. I look forward to continuing to be a part of this university community as an active retiree."

Jan began her career at Millikin in 1978 as a resident director for the student development staff. She went on to serve that office in various roles, eventually serving as dean of students and chief student development officer. In 1996, she joined the alumni and development office as director of alumni relations. In her role as chief alumni relations officer, she has led the successful efforts to keep literally thousands of alumni and friends engaged with the university.

Before Jan’s last day in the office, we will host an event to allow all of Millikin’s “Jan fans” the opportunity to thank her personally for her service to Millikin and wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement. Please watch for complete details about that event in an upcoming announcement, and I hope you’ll join me in expressing appreciation to Jan for her exemplary service to this institution.

In other news, I’d like to share that the Millikin board of trustees has appointed me as the permanent vice president for alumni and development, after serving as interim vice president for the office since last September and, prior to that, as director of development since 1997. I appreciate this vote of confidence from the board. I will do my best to continue to raise funds in support of university needs within Millikin’s “Transform MU” capital campaign and ensure our office continues to provide the same high quality of service to our alumni and friends that has been our hallmark for many years.
