Trustee to address grads at winter commencement

MU Trustee Kevin Breheny will speak at the 2011 Winter Commencement ceremony Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2 p.m. at Kirkland Fine Arts Center. More than 100 students are expected to participate in the ceremony.

Big Blue basketball season openers feature special attractions

At the men's basketball home opener on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at Griswold Physical Education Center, meet new head men's coach Matthew Nadelhoffer and help honor several Big Blue basketball Athletic Hall of Fame members at the game. Click here for the men's basketball schedule.

Millikin alums honored by Decatur Public Schools
Bruce Grimes ’57 and Thomas Harrington ’70 were among those honored by Decatur Public School District No. 61 on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the annual Decatur Public Schools Foundation “Celebrate! The Legacy of Learning” event held at Richards Treat University Center.

St. Louis Alumni: Meet the Jeffcoats

IRA charitable rollover set to expire Dec. 31

Earn tax benefits by making a gift from your IRA to Millikin before Dec. 31. Under this provision, such gifts can:
1. Count toward your required minimum distributions for 2011 and
2. Be excluded from your gross income: a tax-free rollover.

To qualify:

  • You must be 70½ or older at the time of the gift
  • Transfers must go directly from the IRA to Millikin
  • Your total IRA gift(s) cannot exceed $100,000 per year
  • Gift(s) must be outright.

This opportunity is currently scheduled to expire on Dec. 31, 2011.

They received a leather MU coaster for correctly knowing that the material originally used to insulate the music conservatory building was seaweed.

Stephen Fiol, former dean of the College of Fine Arts, along with the late C.D. "Perk" and Pat Perkinson '45 examine the seaweed insulation removed during the renovation and expansion of the School of Music building in 1998. The facility was renamed Perkinson Music Center in honor of the Perkinsons after the couple gifted  $8 million in support of the building project and its endowment.
