Lees Summit, Missouri
Joan Carrel of Lee's Summit went home to be with Jesus last Monday night. She was born July 12, 1925 in Peoria, Illinois to Fred and Mildred Wollett. She was married in 1945 to Mort Carrel and they had three children. She was a wonderful homemaker and mother for many years and then decided to pursue a career in social work. After she received her Bachelors degree from Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois, in 1969, she worked over 20 years for the Illinois State Public Aid office. She was actively involved in her church and went on a mission trip to Haiti in 1989.
She retired in 1990 and moved to Ft. Myers, Florida where she worked for Sears and was a Foster Grandparent in the public school system there. She loved to help the children with their studies. She went on a dream-of-a-lifetime trip to Israel to visit the Holy Land in 1998.
She moved to Oklahoma in 2004 to be nearer to family members. She again was a Foster Grandparent in the public school system in Edmond, Oklahoma. She moved north a bit to Lee's Summit in 2010.
Surviving are her brother, Donald Wollett, Clinton, WA; three children, Mrs. Ronald (Patricia) Kimble, Mt. Zion, IL; Michael (Nancy) Carrel, Lee's Summit, MO; Bradley Carrel, Yukon, OK; grandsons Scott Kimble, IL; Steve Kimble, MO; Freddie Carrel, OK; granddaughter Steffany Hedenkamp, MO; and 6 great-grandchildren.
We would like to thank the John Knox Village Rehab and Hospice units for their great care of Mom during her stay there.
We love you Mom and we will miss you very much.
