Denny R. Benner of Mt. Zion, IL passed away 12:10 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012 in his residence.
Denny was born in November of 1925 in Findlay, IL son of Samuel L. and Reta M. Benner. He married Marjorie (Macklin) in September of 1949 at Findlay. Denny served his country from January 1944 to May 1946 during World War II and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, Troop Carrier Command. All his military service was stateside.
Denny retired from Millikin University after 28 years of service. Denny was a member of the Church of Christ in Findlay and Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Post 409 in Findlay, the Society of Professional Engineers, the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 274, and a life member of the National Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Denny was fond of his connections to Findlay and always felt as though Findlay was his home. He loved his Lord, his family, his country, and was grateful to his students for the privilege of serving them.
He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Annette (David) Reichart and Roma (William) Allison, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and eight nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers (Roan Gene, Charles Samuel) and two sisters (Mary Harmison, Lola Kirkwood).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the Denny Benner Scholarship c/o Millikin University or to the donor’s choice.
