Earl Lawrence Kuhle, 96, of Decatur, passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 at Imboden Creek Gardens. Lawrence was born February 4, 1917 in Assumption, IL, the son of Augustus and Elizabeth (Lacy) Kuhle. He married June Audrey Bilgere on June 27, 1942. She preceded him in death January 14, 1999.
Lawrence attended Millikin University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. He was a varsity letter winner in baseball at Millikin and passed on his love of sports to his children. He proudly served his country in U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as Purchasing Manager at St. Mary’s Hospital, and retired in 1985 after thirty-five years of service.
He was an avid bridge player and was very involved with Macon County politics. He served on the Macon County Board for many years, Decatur Township, and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman. He was a lifetime member of Saints James and Patrick Parish.
Survivors include his children Earl L. (Lornie) Kuhle, San Diego, CA; Michael A. (Misoo) Kuhle, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Elizabeth (Betsy) Kuhle, Kalamazoo, MI; and Chuck (Terri) Kuhle of Decatur; and grandchildren Jennifer Kuhle, Nashville, TN; Nicholas Kuhle Newport Beach, CA; Patrick, Amy, and Tracy Kuhle, Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Orlando A. Kuhle; and seven sisters, Elizabeth Foran, Hildrid Wheat, Ellis Scherer, Christina Parks, Lenore France, Helen Alfrey, and Margaret Ryan.
