James M. “Jim” Koonce, 84, of Greenview, formerly of Illiopolis, passed away at 7:51 a.m., Friday, June 6, 2014, in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield, IL.
Jim was born in January of 1930, in Niantic, IL, the son of Clarence and Julia Koonce. He graduated from Niantic High School, and attended Millikin University. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning, Jim was a long time farmer in the central Illinois farm community.
Mr. Koonce is survived by his daughter, Deborah, and her husband Jeff, of Broken Arrow, OK; son, David, and his wife, Kay, of Illiopolis, IL; Three grandchildren: Cortnee, Dex, and Jamie; one great granddaughter, Madison; his best friend for over 20 years: Virginia Riddle, and her children: Cleo, Johnny, and Jerold; her grandchildren: Brad, Courtney and Laura; and several nieces and nephews from both families.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eldon and Carroll, and sister Valera.
Jim was a quiet man who loved his family, and was beloved by them.
