Harold I. (Tony) Lents, born May 13, 1939 in Decatur, Illinois, left this earthly home for his eternal home in Heaven on May 31, 2014 at age 75. His passing occurred following a massive stroke. In 1957, Tony graduated from St. Teresa High School in Decatur, Illinois, where he excelled in basketball and baseball. His first year of college was at St. Louis University; he subsequently went on to graduate from Millikin University, in Decatur, Illinois, in 1961.
After several years of working on the floors of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and the Chicago Board of Trade, Tony and his family moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1973, where he was a commodity broker, continuing in that position until the day of his stroke.
Tony loved sports, both as a participant and as a spectator. He played basketball and baseball, not only in high school but also in college. Golf was also a high priority whenever the Bandits would gather at Elmwood. Wednesday evenings often were taken up with a group of friends, playing a game of Pitch. Every Sunday found him at First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Lents; son, Kurt (Vickie) Lents of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, granddaughters, Samantha and Aimee; son, Thad Lents of Marshalltown, grandchildren, Drayton and Kaelin; brother, Mike (Judy) Lents of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida; sister, Kaye (Ralph) Pool of Washington, Illinois; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marie Lents; and his daughter-in-law, Tara Lents.
