Clarence Mabry, 76, of Galesburg, Ill., passed from this life to eternity on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg, Ill. after an extended illness.
Clarence was born in Brownsville, Tenn., on Dec. 5, 1934, the son of Charlie and Mary Palmer Mabry; but grew up in Decatur, Ill. Where he graduated from Stephen Decatur High School and took some courses at Millikin University.
He was a long-time employee of the State of Illinois; working first at Galesburg State Research Hospital starting out as a psychiatric aide and later as Director of Security. When research hospital closed, Clarence transferred to the newly built medium-security prison in Galesburg, from which he retired.
Clarence leaves to cherish fond memories of him a large family; two brothers, Dr. Eddie Mabry and Roland Mabry (Velma Jo) and one sister, Johnnie Ruth Mabry Bond. An older brother, Charlie Mabry Jr. and an older sister, Mary Louis Mabry Buckner preceded him in death. Five other children were born to the family, but died at birth or during a few months to a year later.
His memory will also be cherished by nephews and nieces; Darrel Buckner Jr. (Gloria), Clarence Buckner (Jackie), Brian Bond (Waria), Chris Mabry, Jason Mabry and Quintan Mabry and a host of great-nephews and nieces.
The Mabry family expresses its deep gratitude for the loving care that was given to Clarence by the staff of Cottage Hospital and Marigold Nursing Home in Galesburg. Special thanks also goes to Beverly Therry for her diligent and compassionate care, given to Clarence during his long period of illness.
The family thanks Fletcher and McDougald Funeral Home for its professional care. Obituary written by family members.
