Richard A. Peterson, 65, of Galena, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 2, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 1, 1946 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of Howard and Lorraine (Cooper) Peterson. He was united in marriage to Frances Coutant on July 5, 1967 in St. Louis, Missouri.
He graduated from Eisenhower High School in Decatur in 1964. Richard graduated from Millikin University in 1968 with a degree in mathematics. He retired from his position as manager of the IT Department of Illinois Power, Decatur, after thirty-five years of service. After retirement in 2003, he and his wife moved to Galena. Richard served as an EMT for the Galena Ambulance and as a volunteer for the Galena Territory Fire Department. He also did volunteer work with the Jo Daviess Conservation Foundation, National Prairie Enthusiasts, Conservation Guardians of Northwest Illinois and the Greenspace Committee of the Galena Territory Association. He enjoyed snow skiing, traveling and spending time outdoors. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his time spent with his children and grandchildren will be forever cherished.
He is survived by his wife, Frances; two daughters, Kristin (Jeff) Torrens of Schaumburg, Illinois, and Dr. Erika (Tim Gariepy) Peterson of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Samuel, Kara, Jacob and Regan; two brothers, Howard Peterson of California, and John (Sarah) Peterson of Illinois; one sister, Joy (Ray) Stimac of Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
