Ray E. Ballard '51, age 85 of Arnold, Mo., and formerly of Springfield and Carrollton, died Friday, March 12, 2010, at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis.

He was born September 1, 1924 in White Hall, son of Clarence W. and Virginia Patterson Ballard. He married Mary Beth Tuey July 1, 1947 in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death January 31, 2006.

He is survived by two daughters, Karen E. (husband Bruce) Berning of Arnold, MO. and Kayla R. Ballard of Salem, MO. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margorie Thompson, in 1996.

Mr. Ballard was a 55 year resident of Springfield. He was retired as a cost analyst for Central Illinois Public Service Co. after more than 40 years service. He has made his home between his two daughters for the past few years. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving with the Asiatic-Pacific Fleet. He also served in the US Marine Air Force Fighter Squadron Reserve. He was a graduate of Millikin University where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and of the Marching Band, and Symphony Orchestra. He was a life member of Springfield Elks 158 BPOE, and Christ the King Church in Springfield.
