Carolyn Mae Grasch 72, of Decatur passed away at 6:20 PM on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born in Decatur to her Christian parents Edward and Minnie. Jesus Christ became her Savior through baptism and has now taken her home to heaven.
Carolyn graduated from Millikin University in 1962 and later attended Illinois State University for Masters Studies. She married Gerald Grasch on August 28, 1964. They had a loving marriage of 48 years.Carolyn had a vast career in education where she taught in the Decatur School District, the Lutheran School Association, the Adolf Meyer Mental Health Center, and Illinois Macon/Piatt County- Futures Unlimited. She began at John’s Hill in 1962 and retired as Director of Futures Unlimited in 2005.
She was a member of the Stephen Decatur Chapter of National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She was active in various church and civil organizations throughout her life.
She is survived by husband Gerald; son Michael, daughter-in-law Sarah, grandchildren David & Jonathan; daughter Susan Green, son-in-law Chris, and grandchildren Megan & Luke; and sister, Joyce Cain.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Carolyn was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be dearly missed. Special thanks are extended to all who touched her life and cared for her and her family.
