Richard Dale Gulick, 71, of Decatur, IL, died 6:20 p.m., Wednesday, February 5, 2014, in his home.
Dick was born June 8, 1942 in Decatur, IL, the son of Theron Oran and Helen Lucille (Phillips) Gulick. He married Janice Nadine Wilkinson on August 14, 1965 in Trueblood Memorial EUB Church.
Dick was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church, where he was a Trustee in the church and was co-chairman of the Building Committee in 1996 when the church was rebuilt following the April tornado. He graduated from Warrensburg Latham H.S. in 1960 and Millikin University in 1964 where he played basketball and baseball. Dick farmed all of his life and had served as a member of the Macon County Farm Bureau Board and Cornbelt F.S. Board. He served in the Illinois Army National Guard from 1964 to 1970.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janice; children Martha Diane Leeper and husband Thomas, Karyn Lynette Hortin and husband Michael, all of Decatur, IL; grandchildren Jarred William Leeper and wife Lori, Evan Richard Leeper, Jenna Faith Leeper, Addison Oran Hortin, Dale Michael Hortin; sister Beverly Ann Carmean; beloved uncle Herbert Dale Gulick, both of Decatur, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the staff and friends of St. John’s Hospice and Comfort Keepers for their love and care of Dick during the past week.
Dick was a wonderful husband and father, brother, farming partner and friend. He will be forever remembered and loved by all who knew him.
