Curtis 'Doc' Berrey, 80, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014, at his home in Florida.
He was born July 29, 1933, and was son of the late Robert and Alice (Droege) Berrey, who had lived in Batchtown.
He married Glenda Brewer in 1979. She survives.
He was a graduate of East Alton-Wood River High School and went on to graduate from Millikin University and Washington University Dental School. He practiced over 50 years locally until 2002. He served in the United States Air Force for 22 years, where he obtained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring in 1990. He was a pillar in the community serving on various local boards such as Roxana School Board, Lewis and Clark Community Dental Board, and Airport Bank Board. He was a founding member of a cost-free dental clinic for indigent children. He was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wood River. In his free time, when not traveling with his wife, he loved spending time with his family, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Aside from his wife, he is survived by his children, Robert Berrey, Curtis Berrey, David Berrey, Tiffani (Holder) Cunningham and Rachel (Berrey) Peterson; his brother-in-law, Bill Freeman; twelve grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, as well as his sister, Nina Freeman, and a niece, Roberta Freeman.
