National Bird-Feeding Society to Host Public Bird-Feeding Seminar
February 11, 2010

Millikin University and the National Bird-Feeding Society (NBFS) will host a public bird-feeding seminar in celebration of National Bird-Feeding Month on Saturday, February 27  from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. in Leighty-Tabor Science Center, Room 001 at Millikin. The event is free and open to the public.

During the seminar, Dr. David J. Horn, director of the NBFS and associate professor of biology at Millikin, and Stacey Shonkwiler, manager of the NBFS, will present information on wild bird food and feeder preferences, best bird-feeding practices, backyard bird identification, and bird safety.

“Over 55 million Americans feed birds, making bird-feeding America’s second most popular hobby,” remarked Horn. “This seminar will answer the public’s questions about this enjoyable, affordable and educational pastime.

National Bird-Feeding Month was created to advance and publicize the wild bird-feeding and watching hobby.  Each February, a new and unique theme is adopted. The theme for 2010 is “Hatching Out - An Introduction to the Wild Bird-Feeding Hobby.”
