Winter Commencement to recognize both traditional undergraduates and graduate programs

On Sunday, Dec. 11, Millikin University will honor more than 100 graduates from the Class of 2022 with an in-person ceremony beginning at 2 p.m. at Kirkland Fine Arts Center. The winter commencement ceremony will recognize both traditional undergraduates and those receiving their Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master of Business Administration degrees.

graduating studentsAdditionally, Millikin community members will be able to watch the ceremony through a public livestream on Millikin's graduation website at millikin.edu/commencement and on the University's Facebook page.

The ceremony will feature remarks from Millikin President Dr. Jim Reynolds as well as student speaker Isabella Voss. The Winter Commencement address will be given by Millikin alumna Erica Menton.

Student speaker Isabella Voss, of Lockport, Ill., is graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Management Information Systems. The title of Voss' speech is “Always Learning.” During her three and a half years at Millikin, Voss has been honored to serve as the President of Women in Business, Vice President of the Tabor Student Advisory Council and Senior Consultant in the student-run venture Millikin University Performance Consulting. As a member of the Honors Program and Delta Mu Delta Honor Society, Voss has been able to develop her knowledge and network with alumni and local businesses.

Winter Commencement keynote speaker Erica Melton, Class of 2005, is the Director of Finance/City Treasurer for the City of Fernando in Los Angeles, Calif. Melton graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Millikin University and holds a Master of Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University. While at Millikin, Melton was an active advocate for racial equity and inclusion initiatives as President of the Black Student Union, organizer of the Multicultural Roundtable and writer for the Office of Multicultural Affairs. She was also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity and Residence Housing Association (RHA).  She served as a member of the Millikin University Alumni Association Board (MUAAB) and continues to support alumni efforts.

The title of Melton’s address is “The Choice and Challenge to Stand.”
