Dr. Harold G. "Hal" Jeffcoat
, a native of Nashville, Tennessee, was raised in Tampa, Florida. As a boy, he excelled in sports earning All-Conference recognitions as a high school quarterback and punter and high school All-American in baseball. The San Francisco Giants drafted him out of high school in the fourth round and he played professionally from 1965 to 1975, attending the University of South Florida (USF) in the off-season, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1973.
Jeffcoat began his career in higher education in 1975, at Baker University, a United Methodist college located in Baldwin City, Kansas. He went on to earn his Master of Arts in History also from USF, the doctorate in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Kentucky and graduate law degree from the University of Leicester, in England. He has served as Assistant Vice President at Purdue University and Vice Chancellor of the University of Missouri. This past June, he completed his tenth year as President and Chief Executive Officer of Texas Wesleyan University. In addition he holds the rank of tenured full professor of Humanities and professor of European Union Law at Texas Wesleyan University.
Jeffcoat is married to Marie Tofte Jeffcoat, a native of Bergen, Norway. Marie earned her B.A. in English Education from USF, and recently returned to college to gain her certification to teach high school mathematics. Marie is active in community affairs volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club Auxiliary, the YWCA, American Heart Association, Women of Rotary and the Children’s Center in Ft. Worth, Texas, and served as a mission volunteer helping to rebuild homes in Gulfport, Mississippi in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. She enjoys gardening, playing golf, remodeling the family's summer home in Norway, and the arts.
Together, the Jeffcoats have three children and two grandchildren. Jennifer Marie Morton holds a B.A. and M.A. from the University of Missouri. She resides in Augusta, Georgia, with her husband, Chad Morton and two daughters, Julianna Marie (6) and Ava Grace (4). Jacqueline Jeffcoat graduated from Southwestern University and earned her MA from the University of Notre Dame. She now attends Emory University, Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, Georgia and pursues the Master of Divinity degree in Christian Ethics. James Michael Jeffcoat earned All-American honors in lacrosse while a student at Southwestern University, and will complete his Master of Arts in Professional Counseling from Texas Wesleyan University in June.
Marie and Hal are members of the First United Methodist Church and St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ft. Worth, Texas. Hal serves on a number of local, national and international organizations, including the Board of Trustees of the Davey O’Brien Foundation and the Mary I. Gourley Foundation; a member of the Board of the United States of America Table Tennis, (a member of the United States Olympic Committee) and formerly a member of the Board of the International Center for Philosophy and Interdisciplinary Research in Olympia, Greece.
